A rich, smooth, creamy buttercream frosting perfect for any cake.
This buttercream frosting is my go to frosting for all occasions. It spreads perfectly, pipes beautifully, and tastes great. I'm not a big frosting fan to be honest. But this one I can eat! It's not too sweet, and the whipping cream makes it so smooth and creamy. Definitely my favorite.
Makes approx. 6 cups, enough to frost and fill an 8-inch cake.
2 sticks (1 cup) softened butter, room temp
1/4 cup shortening
1 lb. powdered sugar (about 8 cups)
1 teaspoon vanilla
8-9 Tablespoons heavy whipping cream
Cream the butter on medium high for a few minutes. Add in vanilla. Turn the mixer on low and slowly add in the powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time. After every cup add 1 Tablespoon of heavy cream. Continue until you've added all the powdered sugar and cream. If you want it thinner, add more cream, and if you prefer it thicker, add more powdered sugar. Beat on medium-high for about 20 seconds at the end, and you're ready to frost! Enjoy!
